Braces for children

Why children may need braces

Braces are often recommended for kids when:

  • Teeth are crowded, misaligned, or there’s not enough space in the jaw
  • Bite problems (overbite, underbite, crossbite) are affecting chewing, speech, or overall dental health
  • Their jaws are still growing, which allows us to guide growth and make corrections more predictably

With today’s advances in orthodontic technologies, treatment is faster, more comfortable, and more discreet than ever before.

Why children may need braces

Types of braces we offer

We offer self-ligating braces for children which use a slide mechanism instead of elastic ties. This design helps make treatment more comfortable, requires fewer appointments, and may reduce friction.

Here are the two main options:

Metal braces

These braces use high-grade stainless steel brackets paired with shape‑memory archwires. Some of the benefits include:

  • Durability and strength - they are highly resilient to normal wear and tear.
  • More affordable than cosmetic alternatives, while still offering excellent performance.
  • Smaller, sleeker brackets than older-style metal braces, meaning less irritation and improved comfort.

Metal braces are a solid choice, especially for more complex alignment cases or when the parents/child prefer something tried‑and‑true.

Ceramic braces

For children who prefer a more discreet look, clear braces are an excellent option.

  • Ceramic or translucent material brackets that blend more with the colour of the teeth, making them far less noticeable than metal.
  • Use the same self‑ligating slide mechanism as the metal Damon braces, so no elastic bands or ties – fewer places for staining or plaque buildup.
  • While they look more discreet, they may be slightly larger or more fragile than metal brackets. There is sometimes a small trade‑off in terms of strength or risk of chipping or breakage.
